Torque Hat

I’ve gone from recently lamenting on not having WIP projects to having more than one! And I’m definitely not complaining.

My Basket Case Cardigan is nearing completion, but I took a break from it to make my mom a hat. She doesn’t usually wear hats, but increasingly colder winds in recent winters finally convinced her to try out some of my previous ones. And she consented to my making her more, yay!

So I knit the Torque Hat (pattern by Karin Wilmoth.)

I made my usual adjustments to the pattern due to gauge differences, and also changed the band at the rim to a 1×1 rib. I wasn’t going to use a snap closure like the pattern indicates, and the hat would be pretty loose if I didn’t change the band. I also made the hat a bit longer.

However, I still wonder if it’ll up end getting looser over time, because I knit the rib band too short due to a miscalculation on my part. Well, if it does, I’ll just make another hat! 😉

I’m about to start on another project too, and I hope I enjoy lots of crafty goodness this year. And I hope the same for you. Happy New Year!

  1. i think it’s wonderful. I admire your gift of being able to adjust knit patterns. Your Mom will be more warm wearing it while knowing the love and heart you put into making it for her. You’re a great daughter. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, E.C.! I’m glad I’ll have more projects to knit, and that some of them will be exclusively for mom. 😄
