Clumsiness. I seem to exhibit more of this when I handle fragile stuff. Like my roll-on deodorant bottle. It’s made of glass, and no matter how careful I am, I end up dropping it at least once in its lifetime – mostly when I’m moving it around. Sometimes, I have good reflexes, and I catch it before it hits the floor, but sometimes, well –
Since I dropped my current one recently, I thought it’s high time I do something about it. Specifically, make a shock-absorbing cover for it. I oscillated between a polymer clay one and a yarny one, and after my sister hinted 😉 that I was being too fancy and overdoing it by even considering something that’s not yarn, I crocheted a case for the bottle.
At first, I didn’t cover the domed lid of the bottle, but after a couple of (nearly heart-stopping) tests involving dropping the bottle, I noticed the cover come a bit loose, so obviously, I crocheted all the way to the top, and added a drawstring of crocheted chain from a different yarn. Needless to say, I love the case! ❤
I’d be interested in hearing your story if you ever made a quick (or not) utilitarian item. 🙂
