Linen and Threads SAL 2018

Stitching in October was more fun than I’d thought it’d be, because mermaids!

I decided on my colors pretty quickly, but I could see an element in this section that might be a problem. The mermaids here appear the way they probably would if they were real – with uncovered chests. On a coffee table runner in the living room (which is what this project will be when done), this would undoubtedly result in affronted conservative eyes – a lot of them. So after some agonizing over this aspect, I decided my project would have the mermaids be Disney ones instead, wearing shells on their breasts. (Sigh!)

After some changes in the chart to accommodate this design decision, the stitching itself went along without a hitch, so I don’t really have much left to say other than gushing about how I love the way this month turned out! 🙂

I can’t believe there are only two more sections to go before this SAL is done! I’m so looking forward to the decorative section of next month.

  1. Aww, poor censored mermaids 🙂 This really made me chuckle, but I understand the decision! Also, the shells look great, apparently you are as in designing embroidery as you are in designing your own knitting patterns – respect!

    1. Thank you very much! The shells are smaller, so were much easier compared to the central vines for the lion/unicorn one. As always, it’s satisfying when things turn out well. 🙂

  3. Anita, I am so glad you found a way to include the mermaids on your runner. They are fabulous!!! Great job! I love it :). It is hard to believe that there are only 2 more sections left. This year really flew by. I hear there is going to be another Sampler for 2019. Are you up for another one?

    1. Thank you, Ginny! I’d love to work on next year’s sampler as well. I was planning to make the 2017 one next year – groups of sections for decorative use in handbags that my sister sews – so I’ll probably have to find a way to fit both in. One thing is for sure though – I’ll stick to just one or two colors! 😉

  4. I look forward to seeing what you do with the 2017 sampler sections. Please share these handbags you speak of. I am very curious ;). It had been a little tricky for me deciding where I want to use the variegated thread and the black thread throughout this Sampler. I can’t imagine trying to decide with many colors. But you did an awesome job with yours. I am thinking I may just do one color next year. That means that I will have to wait to see what the first section looks like to see what fabric I want, and that takes time for a dyer to do. So I have a feeling I will be behind this one in the beginning until I get my colors sorted out. It will be fun!

    1. I agree Ginny, two colors can be at least as tricky as multiple colors. I remember you’d started late this year too since you’d waited for your fabric, but you always manage to catch up quickly, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing your fabric as well as the color you choose!
